Bliss Aftercare: Protect Your blissful spa Results in 72 Hours

By Head Spa Bar | September 12, 2026

Most important rule: wait 24 to 48 hours before shampooing. We see the biggest difference in how long your scalp stays "spotless" and how long your hair stays silky when you protect that first day or two, especially in Huntington Beach where sun, salt, and sweat show up fast.

Bliss Aftercare: Protect Your Head Spa Results in 72 Hours in Huntington Beach

After Bliss, your scalp usually feels clean, smooth, and refreshed right away and your hair tends to feel soft and look shinier. That result is real, and it’s also easy to mess up if you wash too soon or sweat a lot right after. Bliss is our 90 to 105 minute head spa package that builds on Tranquil with a hydrating sheet mask, an oil infusion, a subliminal red light massager, and up to 20 minutes of blow dry. The next 72 hours are where you protect what we just did.

First 24 to 48 hours after Bliss: keep the scalp clean, calm, and dry

We generally recommend treating the first day or two like a protected window. Your scalp has been deeply cleansed and conditioned, and the products we use need time to settle in.

Do: delay shampooing

Hold off on shampoo for 24 to 48 hours. If you can make it closer to 48 to 72 hours, even better. If you’re itching to rinse, use lukewarm water only and keep your fingers gentle.

Don’t: sweat hard or add heat

Skip intense workouts, hot yoga, saunas, and steam rooms for 48 to 72 hours. Heavy sweating can irritate a freshly treated scalp and can also push products out faster. If your schedule is tight, a light walk is usually fine. Just keep it cool.

If you’re in Downtown HB: protect it after pier time

A lot of our Downtown Huntington Beach and Main Street Pier District clients come straight from the pier or after a surf check. If you’re outside right after Bliss, keep your scalp out of direct sun and avoid salty wind hitting damp roots. A loose, dry hat is your friend.

Quick rule for the first night: keep your scalp dry, skip dry shampoo, and try a silk pillowcase so you don’t rub away that clean, calm feeling while you sleep.

Days 3 to 7: beach season rules for Huntington Beach hair and scalp

Once you’re past that first 48 to 72 hours, your goal shifts. Now you’re maintaining the “night and day” clean scalp feeling without reintroducing buildup or irritation.

Saltwater, chlorine, and July sun: keep them off the scalp when you can

Huntington Beach summers are no joke. Sun, salt, and sweat can make your scalp feel coated again fast. If you’re surfing, swimming, or you’re stuck outside in the heat, do your best to keep saltwater and chlorine off your scalp for those first 48 to 72 hours. If you can’t avoid it, wear a loose, dry hat and do a gentle rinse as soon as you’re done.

Don’t “help” flakes or buildup by picking

If you came in with dryness and flaking, it can feel tempting to scratch or pick when you notice a spot. Don’t. It usually irritates the skin and starts a cycle that brings the problem right back. If you see anything you’re unsure about, send us a message and we’ll talk you through it.

Local life tip: If your evening commute makes you sweat at the scalp, keep a clean microfiber towel in the car. Blot your hairline when you get home instead of loading up on dry shampoo.

Sulfate-free shampoo, lukewarm water, and lighter styling for 3 days

When you do wash, keep it simple. A mild, sulfate-free shampoo and lukewarm water go a long way after a scalp treatment. Hot water and aggressive scrubbing are two of the fastest ways to bring back irritation.

Our “less is more” product rule

  • Skip heavy oils at the scalp for about 3 days unless we specifically suggested one for your situation.
  • Go easy on dry shampoo and thick texture sprays. They can look great, but they also love to sit on the scalp.
  • Avoid hot tools for 48 to 72 hours if you can. If you have to style, keep heat low and avoid pressing right at the roots.

If you’re traveling in from Seal Beach, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, or Westminster: try to schedule Bliss on a day you can keep things low-key afterward. The less you sweat on the drive and errands, the longer your scalp stays fresh.

Redness, itching, or “buildup” after Bliss: when to reach out and we’ll help fast

Most people leave Bliss feeling relaxed and noticeably cleaner at the scalp. If you’re a little pink right after, that can happen, especially if you were already dry or flaky. It should calm down quickly.

Reach out to Head Spa Bar if you notice redness that lingers, itching that ramps up instead of settling, or unexpected buildup that shows up even though you followed the wash timing. We’ll ask a few questions, look at what products you used at home, and point you toward a simpler routine that keeps your results going.
